Tell Me A Story!” was one of my favorite phrases as a kid. My parents read to me from the time I was in the womb so stories were an integral part of my childhood. It was that exposure to tales of various genres and origins that captured my heart and I fell in love with writing. But like some of the more tragic narratives, I grew older and therefore I turned away from my true love in favor of responsibility. Writing in my mind became more of a hobby, taking a back seat to a more “practical” way of making a living. Too bad no one tells you that being practical doesn’t always make you happy and can lead you to places you don’t really want to be.
Unfortunately, at 26 years old, that is exactly where I ended up. Despite finishing college and then graduate school, I was working a job that ultimately stressed me to the point of burn out. Eventually, I decided I had enough and knew that there had to be more to my life. So I quit and did the logical thing of course – I became a substitute teacher. Little did I know that teaching would be the catalyst for me to start really pursuing what my heart wanted- to share my stories, and help others do the same via the written word.
